First Gulp !
Here's a few pages about a novice freediver (and novice blogger). Never thought I'd do this, but have found a few pages (like those I hope to create here) that have helped me on my way with other interests, so maybe these will do the same for someone else.
Whats this all about?
To start with I loved scuba diving and exploring the underwater world with a tank on my back, but doesn't all that take a bit of planning?! And it costs you a few quid! I'm more of a spur of the moment sort of chap (and tight wad), so took to satisfying my scuba urges by snorkelling and diving down on a gulp of air.
Wanting to increase my time underwater, I started to read around for ways of doing so and found freediving. After quickly taking a course I came away with my Aida two star freediving qualification and an insight into this incredible new world.
Next sensible step would be to find a club, but there aren't any freediving clubs near where I live, or people that train in freediving close by. (Not that I've found yet anyway!)
Now I am amazed at what can be achieved, but I'm not overly interested in diving to great depths or breaking records, but to increase my dive times so that I can stay down longer to explore the ocean that I'm so lucky to have on my doorstep, stay longer to take decent photos or to wait for that Bass to come into range - now thats what I'm after!
This is nothing new. For generations people have explored beneath the waves with nothing (much) more than a lung-full. I've spoken to a few of them, and I'd love to hear from more of them, and listen to their stories and their advice.
Plus freediving is getting more popular as a sport, so reckon there's a heap of people out there training hard to improve their skills.
So, I'm about to embark on my training. Goal, to increase the length of time that I can spend underwater whilst exploring beneath the Cornish waves....
So thats the jist........interested?!........if so, read on......
